French oppulance brand Hermes is cashing in on the recognition of the iPad 2 with cases that cost more than the inscription itself. The Hermes Swift (left) is a slipcase done from calfskin tanned hide that expenses a whopping $820. It comes in 10 not similar colors. The Hermes Station (right) is a book-style cover, done from the same element as the Swift, that doubles as a stand. Available in 4 colors, the Hermes Station retails at a heart-stopping $1,400. Hermes Case: A Piece of Designer Mystery

The legendary design house of Hermes has uncovered a piece of forgotten history from their private archives. Pulled from their vintage collections are handsome pieces of bespoke luggage produced in the 30’s for Karen Blixen, the famed Danish author of Out of Africa. The tobacco colored crocodile skin cases include every imaginable article an aristocratic author could need on a grueling journey to Africa. The famed Parisian house of Hermes notes that the more detailed of the two pieces of luggage took its craftsmen nearly 368 hours to create. I ran into these Hermes iPhone 3G cases online and I am instantly drooling. It looks to be made out of buttery soft calfskin leather and has a contrast goatskin lining. The perforated front breaks the monotony of the case — I wonder if that is orange lining right behind the perforation or if it becomes see-through when you put your iPhone in, making it easy to see it light up if it is on silent. At $305 these will definitely break the bank (seeing as to the iPhone is only $199) but we can look and drool over the blue jean case, can’t we? … Read entire article »
